User persona + hook canvas small UX project for the Revolut app.

INTRODUCTION

I decided to do small scale demo projects to showcase my skills and provide some benefits both for myself and the subjects of my cases.

USER PERSONA

“Who is Kopernik?”

Kopernik is a 29-year-old male. Lives in Kaunas, Lithuania with his girlfriend. Currently, he is freelancing as a Web developer doing short-term projects and supporting several websites. Kopernik came in contact with Revolut 2 years ago. His friends started sharing their great experience with these banking solutions, and benefits such as free money transfers, currency conversions, and no maintenance costs, made Kopernikus very interested and eventually a permanent user.

More about Kopernikus: What is his background experience?

Kopernikus studied at ISM University of business and economics. After graduating he had various experiences such as co-founding a company, writing a book, mentoring and supervising 14–18-year-old kid groups for a few years. 3 years ago he took interest in software development, started by self-studying and doing small projects for friends & family, then took 2-month long front-end Bootcamp and shortly after started working as a front-end developer in a web development agency.

He is involved in volunteering at Masters of calm project, which hosts the biggest Consciousness festival in Lithuania, including many mini-event in between such as camps, relationship workshops, gong nights and much more. He develops solutions and landing pages for their website and participates in events as either volunteer, participant or team member.

Currently, he decided to pursue a career in UX design as this was a topic he was always intrigued by. He believes that everyone is a designer, but some are good and some not so much.

HOOK CANVAS

TRIGGER
What are the relevant triggers of action?

Need to send/receive money to/from a person I know fast and easy, without transfer commissions.
Use some functionality when traveling, exchange currency, travel insurance, withdraw cash from any cash machine.

Sending/receiving trigger usually happens when after/before an event when financial commitment is involved. For example, friends buy an expensive gift and share the cost, then they all send money to the one who buys the gift. So the trigger is a social event when more funds are needed, or user doesn’t have money on him at the moment.

The user wants to know whether he has enough money to buy something. So he has to check his balance.

The user wants to plan to check his expenses/income. Revolut has valuable statistical analysis where money was used. For health products, shopping, traveling, etc.

ACTION
What is the simplest action that our user has to perform to be rewarded?

For money transfer: User has to 1) click on the app, 2) enter pin, 3) click on money transfers option, 4) scroll to find his contact or pick the recent ones which are displayed first, 5) enter cash amount (good that it auto-selects), 6) press button send, 7) enter security pin.

VARIABLE REWARD
How is the user rewarded?

After he gets/sends the money he feels better.
By not paying any commissions, as for example in other banks, and process being quicker he feels that he saved time and money.
Feels more in financial control by having functionalities such as vault.
Feels safer, freer when traveling, by having easy access to insurance and money operations in foreign countries.

INVESTMENT
How does the persona release the next action?

Persona checks his financial situation, explores options such as investing, prices of currency conversions, the app becomes a sort of financial info provider.

SUGGESTIONS

Some suggestions and random thoughts that could improve the app.

Introduce more hooks/functions such as pension funds, life insurance (variations).
Reduce money transfers by 1 step.
Introduce vault, where you can’t withdraw money for a set period of time, year, 5 years...

Intuition: Re-work paid membership transition, because for this user persona there is no way to make that leap.
